TRID Wildfire Infrastructure Hardening Plan
TRID Wildfire Infrastructure Hardening Plan (Updated 9/4/25)
Adopted by the TRID board on 8/30/25
Top Priorities for infrastructure hardening:
1. Refresh or add gravel 5 feet around all tanks, structures, and generators.
2. Screen off building vents (1/8th inch mesh)—both square gable vents and round eave
vents of all structures. Plug gaps in metal roofs with mineral wool or 1/8th inch mesh
screen.
3. Screen off the generator structure and air intakes so embers do not enter the
generator during operation. Check with generator companies for recommendations
to make sure there is adequate air flow for proper operation.
4. Protect electrical items: PVC conduits and telemetry cabling exiting structures with
metallic conduit or other fire-resistant materials. Clear around electrical service
poles that feed structures.
5. Fuels management—clearing brush with an emphasis on 30 feet from all tanks,
generators, and structures.
6. Regularly blow debris off generator structures. Consider having a leaf blower at
each location for quick action.
7. Install temporary sprinklers and stainless supply hoses on all tanks, generators, and
structures (June-October). These sprinklers would be manually activated before an
evacuation order.
Second-level priorities:
1. Structures over generators like the diesel tank cover at Howard J Perry (HJP) Garage.
Shelter should provide adequate access and ventilation for generator operation, but
could be oriented to shield from direct flame and ember stream.
2. Pre-plumb sprinklers around pump houses, with remote operability.
3. Protect the gas regulator valve at the HJP building
TRID Site Specific Actions:
Washoe Way (Main Wells)
1. Thin and prune cedar trees at the front of the lot.
2. Limb any larger trees 20-30 feet from the ground.
3. Consider removing smaller trees within 30 feet of all structures and generators.
4. Trim shrubs on the hillside.
5. Rake back all needles and small organic material 30 feet.
Skyline Tank:
1. Rake and pile needles and branches away from the tank, structures, and generator
30 feet or to the property line.
2. Rent a dumpster and organize a lot cleanup day to rake the lot and remove surface
fuels.
3. Remove dying or dead trees (Red Firs). Remove the tree near the generator, but leave
the willows for a fire break.
4. Contact the conservancy about prioritizing the cleanup of adjacent lots.
5. Contact Liberty Electric about the electrical line runs through trees on adjoining
lots.
Silvertip Tank:
1. Remove small trees surrounding the tank on the back and sides.
2. Cut back shrubs but leave willows for a fire break.
3. Remove small trees in preparation for solar panels.
4. Consider matching messaging on banner with actual regulations – e.g., Seasonal
Fire Ban in effect or North Tahoe Fire Protection District Currently Prohibits ALL
Open Burning and Recreational Fires.
Silvertip Garage HJP:
1. Thin and clear brush on the backside of the structure.
2. Limb up all trees 20 feet and thin brush within 30 feet of the structure.
Montclair Tank:
1. Remove two healthy, live trees (with connected trunks), leaving one healthy, limbed-
up tree in front of the pump house.
2. Limb trees behind the tank.
3. Remove small trees within 30 feet of the tank.
4. Trim shrubs around the tank.
Other To Dos:
1. Contact the Conservancy and Forest Service about cleaning up any lots that adjoin
the TRID Critical Infrastructure.
2. Consider joining the Wildfire Solution Coalition as the TCPUD recently did.
